Aula del Mar is a museum that was born from the need to raise values of the township to achieve a sustainable development. We live in a sea-terrestrial ecosystem, in which we participated, with which we interact, to which we need to understand, because as Jacques Cousteau said, -People protect what they love-
We invite you to participate in this gathering where you will discover and experience the relationship with the sea in a respectful and interactive manner.
The oceanic Posidonia, the misnamed “alga”, is a superior plant with roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits. Like dolphins, this flowering plant, left the dry land to return to sea again, and to become an essential value without which, surely, our municipality would not be what it is today.
In the beginnings of Roquetas de Mar, while men transformed the environmental surface to their duties resulting from fishing and salt industry, beyond the breakwater, the Posidonia also continues shaping the environment inexorably century after century. It shapes its environment by creating reefs that protect the coastline and are responsible for our wide beaches and fine sand and filtering and settling down continuously the suspended matter offering a great clarity and providing an ideal environment to support life. Nowadays these are fundamental resources for tourism and fishery.
Mediterranean fish, birds, whales, crustaceans, molluscs and echinoderms have their place here. Even the less friendly faces of the sea, such as jellyfish, moray eels, stingrays and sharks deserve your attention. You cannot miss a representative of our coast aquarium where you can enjoy with damselfish, anemones, bream, starfish and wrasses among others.
Interactive games for all ages: “sounds of the sea”, “amazing animals”, puzzles, word search and “touch and discover”.
In Aula del Mar, we also have a convertible audiovisual room, where videos and documentaries are exposed, lectures are given and workshops are held to arranged groups.
